Hi there, and congratulations on arriving to this moment with your new baby! Whether you’re planning for postpartum, or are already there, you deserve to be celebrated. You deserve loving and affirming care, a nourished and joyful postpartum.

My name is Sheyda (she/her) and I am honored to provide postpartum doula support to families in Brooklyn and Queens, NY.

A warm and gentle caregiver, I help create space for you to bond with your baby, restore your body, and adjust to your new family roles, while striving to be non-judgmental, inclusive, compassionate, and mindful of your wishes. Giving birth is a massive undertaking of the body and soul. The hormonal shift the body undergoes upon birthing a baby is the largest the human body ever experiences. Meanwhile, your newborn is now on the outside, and yet still utterly dependent on you as they were on the inside. My goal is to bring ease into this experience and create space for the wonder that unfolds.

Enlisting a postpartum doula is a wonderful act of self-care. No matter your current support system, it’s helpful to have a non-judgmental witness to what you are going through and a source of information and emotional support as a part of the team. A doula can support the family during such a special time when you yourself are nurturing your own most precious little one!

I’d love to hear from you and learn about your needs to see how I can support you and your family during this transition. Postpartum doesn’t end at 6 weeks or 3 months, and I offer support anytime within the first year of your child’s life. Reach out here.

My role as a postpartum doula is to provide you with non-medical physical, emotional and informational support after the birth of your baby. I offer a range of services to nurture you and to aid in the transition of adding a new member to your family. This may include: education on typical postpartum recovery, assistance with feeding and general newborn care, breast/chest feeding support, demonstration of baby wearing techniques, and assistance with household tasks (laundry, light cleaning, running errands and/or preparing tea and snacks). At some point we may be sharing a cup of tea while I listen to what you are going through, and at another I may be tidying up after tucking you and baby in for a nap. Holding space, holding your baby (so you can sleep or shower!), and holding your household together while you navigate big emotional shifts, are all things I do with warmth and enthusiasm.

Sheyda’s support for our family in the postpartum period was extremely valuable. We felt taken care of both physically and emotionally — she took care of so much from cooking, organizing and baby wearing to feeding and planning ahead. My son loved her, she helped him sleep well and she contributed immensely to our preparation for the next phase of parenthood. We feel so grateful to have met and connected with Sheyda. Any family would be lucky to have her support and guidance.
— Lou, Williamsburg Brooklyn

trainings

I have trained as a postpartum doula through Birth Advocacy Doula Training, a community oriented, reproductive justice centered alliance of birth workers, because I believe that safe, informative, and deeply connected postpartum care is a human right. I am currently deepening my doula training and sharing what I’ve learned in a year-long mentorship with Manhattan Birth. I have also completed a 50 hour training toward becoming an Integrative Lactation and Feeding Specialist through Manhattan Birth’s ILFS program, a unique lactation training that takes a whole person, whole family approach to assisting new parents with learning to feed their newborns. In my approach to infant feeding (as in all my doula work) I strive to be non-judgmental, inclusive, compassionate, and mindful of your wishes as an individual and as a family.

More About Me

I've lived in NYC for 10 years, where I’ve mostly worked as a textile designer. Living with my French husband and our cuddly cat Phoebe, we welcomed our son to the family in 2022. You’ll find me jogging, doing yoga, and rediscovering the world with my curious toddler.

My interest in birth work began during my own pregnancy and when I became a parent in October of 2022. We cannot know exactly how our birth and postpartum will unfold and I fortunately had support from several very generous friends, and affirming care from my doulas and midwives to help me through early parenting and nursing struggles, as well as the bittersweet challenge of returning to work full time four months later. I benefited so greatly from this sharing of knowledge and emotional support. Here the seed was planted that I wanted to pay it forward as a postpartum doula.
